What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser so it can recognise you on a later visit. Some are needed for a site to work safely. Others, like analytics cookies, are optional, and the law says we have to ask before setting them.
The cookies we use
When you first visit, we ask whether you're happy for us to use Google Analytics. If you say no, or don't answer, our website sets no cookies of its own and Google Analytics doesn't load.
If you accept, Google Analytics 4 sets the cookies below. We use them to see which pages are read, how people arrive at the site and roughly where from, so we can make it more useful. They don't tell us who you are.
| Name | Set by | What it's for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor apart from another, so visits can be counted. Only set if you accept analytics. | Up to 2 years |
_ga_4YDST59KXH | Google Analytics | Keeps track of the current visit for this website. Only set if you accept analytics. | Up to 2 years |
__cf_bm | Cloudflare | Strictly necessary. Helps tell people from automated bots, to protect the site. It doesn't track you across sites. | 30 minutes |
Cloudflare security cookies
Our website sits behind Cloudflare, which protects it from attacks and spam. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies such as __cf_bm to manage bot traffic, and occasionally others if it needs to check that a visitor is a person. These are needed to keep the site secure, so they don't need your consent and aren't affected by your analytics choice.
How we remember your choice
Your answer to the analytics question is saved in your browser's local storage, under the name analytics-consent, so we don't ask you on every page. It stays on your device and isn't sent to us. If you clear your browser data, or browse privately, we'll simply ask again.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page to change your choice at any time. If you withdraw consent, Google Analytics stops loading. You can also delete any cookies already set using your browser's settings.
Most browsers let you block cookies altogether. If you block Cloudflare's security cookies, you may occasionally be asked to prove you're a person before a page loads.
