"Can you pull me everyone who requested the print edition in the last couple of years, in the UK, who's a decision maker?" In a lot of small publishers that question goes to the one person who understands the spreadsheet, or the one person who can write SQL. Then you wait.
Selections in Adeptis puts audience selection in the hands of whoever needs the list. Choose your criteria on the left, see the result on the right, and the count updates live while you work.
A builder that shows its working
The screen is split in two: criteria down the left, results on the right, in the style of a professional audience tool. Each filter group folds away when you don't need it, so the page stays readable even when you're filtering on a lot at once.
Every reader resolves to one best record: their freshest, highest-priority circulation record. So you're counting people, not rows. If someone has requested three of your titles, they're one reader with three registrations, not three readers.
The filters publishers actually use
You can combine any of these:
- Title registration, matching all or any of the titles you tick.
- Request recency, for example only readers who requested within the last five years.
- Request type, such as individually requested or company requested.
- Country.
- ABC priority tiers, so you can go after your strongest requests first.
- Demographics, searchable, using the questions you've set up for each title.
- Tags, either "include" or "must have".
- Email-list membership, either "include" or "must be on".
The demographic questions are your own. You define them per title or across the whole database on the circulation and data quality page, and they show up here as filters straight away.
Mailing options that save postage
Two options earn their keep on every print mailing. "Postal address required" drops anyone you can't post to. "One row per household" de-duplicates by name and postcode, so you don't send two copies to the same desk.
They sound small. On a print run they're the difference between paying to post a magazine and paying to post it twice.
A live count and the tier mix
As you build, the count updates and a bar shows how the selection splits across ABC priority tiers. That's handy when you're planning a print run and want the most valuable requests at the front of the queue. It's also a quick sense check before an audit: you can see at a glance how much of a list is well-requested and recent.
Save it, reload it, export it
Selections can be saved by name and reloaded later, which matters for the lists you run every issue. When you're happy, export to CSV with a full address block, ready for your mailing house or email platform.
The audience base underneath rebuilds automatically every night. If you've just updated a batch of records and want them in now, press Rebuild base and carry on.
How it fits with the rest
Selections reads from the CRM, so everything you capture about a reader (requests, tags, list membership, demographics) becomes something you can select on. The same demographics feed the media pack breakdowns, and the priority tiers come from the same records as the Circulation Age report.
If you're new to how requested circulation works, controlled circulation explained covers the basics. And if you need saved audiences that drive multi-step workflows across a large, multi-brand database, look at audience selection in Avio, for larger publishers and groups.
The best way to see it is with a question you'd actually ask. Book an Adeptis demo, bring a list you've struggled to pull, and we'll build it on screen.
Questions
Do I need to know SQL?
No. You tick boxes and pick filters, and the count updates as you go.
How current is the data I'm selecting from?
The audience base rebuilds automatically every night, and there's a button to rebuild it on demand when you've just made changes.
Can Adeptis send the email to my selection?
No, Adeptis doesn't send email itself. Export the selection to CSV for your email platform or mailing house, and email insight reports on the campaign afterwards.
Will the same household get two copies?
Not if you don't want it to. The one-row-per-household option de-duplicates by name and postcode.
Can we save selections we run every month?
Yes. Save a selection by name, reload it next time, adjust it if you need to and export again.
